What is Required?
- Year One: SafeSport Trained Core Course (1.5-2 hours)
- Year Two: SafeSport Core Refresher 1 Course (15-20 mins)
- Year Three: SafeSport Core Refresher 2 Course (15-20 mins)
- Year Four: SafeSport Core Refresher 3 Course (15-20 mins)
- Year Five: SafeSport Trained Core Course (cycle repeats)

Mandatory SafeSport Training for All Adult Participants
All Adult Participants, defined as adults involved with NGBs, PSOs, LAOs (clubs), or the USOPC, must complete SafeSport training. This includes any adult who:
- Holds membership or a license with an NGB, PSO, LAO, or the USOPC.
- Serves as an employee or board member within these organizations.
- Falls under their governance or disciplinary authority; or
- Is authorized to have regular contact with or authority over Minor Athletes.
SafeSport Training for Parents and Athletes (Optional)
SafeSport training for parents and athletes is encouraged to support a safer sports environment, though it’s not required. Find the links to both Parent and Athlete Training below to get started.

IYSA SafeSport Training Portal for Club Compliance
To support our clubs in implementing the MAAPP policy, IYSA has created a free training portal. This portal allows Board Members, Staff, Volunteers, and other Adult Participants to easily access and complete their SafeSport training, ensuring compliance with policy requirements.
Minor Athlete Abuse Prevention Policies (MAAPP)
The Minor Athlete Abuse Prevention Policies (MAAPP) are designed to protect young athletes and ensure safe environments in sports. Safe Soccer Clearance: Strengthening Safeguarding for Participants
The Safe Soccer Clearance program by U.S. Soccer offers a streamlined, “green light/red light” system for verifying participant eligibility through background checks and SafeSport training. Currently in beta, it simplifies safeguarding for clubs, providing tools for annual verification, training, and centralized support.
