Tryouts/Returning Players
Players attending Regional Camp will not be penalized for missing ODP tryouts. However, you should still register through GotSport to confirm your interest and ensure evaluators are aware of the conflict. Please also notify ODP staff at info@idahoyouthsoccer.org
Attending Regional Camp is a significant achievement and demonstrates a player’s commitment and performance level. Participation in the camp is considered during the selection process for the next ODP cycle, especially if it conflicts with tryouts.
If a player cannot attend their closest tryout session, they are open to attend a different location to be evaluated at an alternate time.
ODP has a specific rule within IHSAA to where players can actively tryout and be a part of the pool and state team squad for trainings and all event competitions while their player is fully encouraged to participate in High School soccer. Typically, events for Olders take place after IHSAA State Championships in October/November.
No. While informal invitations may have happened in the past, they are not central to Idaho ODP. While club coaches can direct players to Idaho ODP, all players will be evaluated equally through official tryouts to ensure fairness and eliminate bias.
We plan to offer a supplemental tryout (TBD) for players who miss all three tryout windows. This should be before final team assignments to coaching staff and ensures every player is given equal consideration regardless of situation.
Please contact ODP staff directly info@idahoyouthsoccer.org to express interest if this applies to your player.
Players should attend their assigned tryout day and time to ensure a full evaluation.
Players only need to attend one tryout session, ideally at the location closest to them. Each session will have a full evaluation board to assess players thoroughly before assigning them to coaching staff. Attending multiple sessions is not required.
Yes, players should register for tryouts with their primary playing position if available, including goalkeeper. Players will also have the chance to declare their preferred positions at the time of check-in for tryouts.
Goalkeepers should attend both the GK-specific session and their age group session for comprehensive evaluation.
Coaching Staff
A dedicated evaluation board will assess all players during tryouts. Coaching staff assignments will be made after tryouts based on these evaluations.
If your player’s age group is not yet listed, the assignments are still being finalized. Once confirmed, the full coaching staff list will be posted online HERE and shared via email and social media announcement.
ODP Scholarships
Yes. Scholarships for Idaho ODP are available only to players selected after tryouts to help with participation costs. Our official scholarship application opens after tryouts conclude.
If the tryout fee is a concern, please contact info@idahoyouthsoccer.org. We may consider refunding the tryout fee due to financial hardship, even if your player is not selected, but proof of need is required. These costs can also go back to the player fees in the case they are selected.
The Idaho ODP scholarship application will be available after tryouts for players who are selected to a team. Scholarships are need-based and require submission of an application along with documentation of financial hardship.
As part of the scholarship process, players and families will be expected to complete volunteer hours in exchange for financial support. This helps offset program costs and supports IYSA operations. More details, including deadlines and expectations, will be shared once the application opens after tryouts.
Yes, Idaho ODP can offer payment plans to help spread out the cost of participation. After tryouts if your player is selected, please contact your program administrator to discuss available options and find a plan that works for your family’s budget.
General Questions
Pre-ODP is a developmental program for younger age groups (2014s & 2015s), focused on training and evaluation. ODP involves identification, selection, and competition at the state and regional levels.
Pre-ODP programs are designed to introduce younger players to the ODP environment through age-appropriate training. Age group structure, such as whether 2014 and 2015 birth years are combined or separate, varies by program and may depend on registration numbers.
While 2014s are able to compete in ODP Championships, 2015s can be considered to play-up in this case as travel for pre-ODP will be minimal and focused on player development through RTC pool trainings and local event opportunities.
Travel expectations for pre-ODP players are typically limited. Most sessions are local or regional within the state, with occasional travel for festivals or development events. Each program sets its own schedule, so please refer to your program’s event calendar for specifics.
Selection is made based on performance at tryouts. For 2014s, initial placement is in pre-ODP, with potential movement to ODP based on evaluation or declaration at the time of tryouts. You do not need to contact staff directly for placement.
Practice frequency depends on the season and age group. Training sessions will be planned for at least one training per month and are typically scheduled on Saturdays or Sundays to accommodate school and club commitments. A full training calendar will become available by their respective team if your player is selected.
State Pool teams are guaranteed at least one local or in-state event. Idaho ODP Select teams may participate in up to three events, including ODP Championships, inter-regional matches, and potential regional showcases or camps.
Final event schedules will be shared with each team after selections are made.
Players must be registered as an IYSA player to participate in Idaho ODP. Please register to try out for Idaho ODP, and if your player makes the state pool or select team, we will register them with IYSA from there regardless of where their club is based. Please reach out to ODP Staff info@idahoyouthsoccer.org if this pertains to you.
