Each District has its own representation on the IYSA board to help navigate local challenges and provide a direct line of communication and representation for you and your club!
Each District has a commissioner, please feel free to reach out to your local representation!
Cole Johnson, District 1 Commissioner – colejohnson@live.com

Where Do I Play Soccer?

A question we get a lot is where do I play? Where do I sign up?

The simple answer is, not with IYSA. Idaho Youth Soccer is an association of soccer clubs around Idaho that all adhere to USYS and US Soccer rules. We are the organization that keeps things fair and helps run leagues and events.

So how does this info help you as a parent? It does not to be honest, but it provides some context into what our role is as an association.

One thing we do provide on our website is a club directory- It lists all the member clubs throughout Idaho and what district they reside in!

The club directory can be found on the website HERE.

If players inquire about my club and are looking to switch at the end of the season, do I still need to notify their current club?

The intent of the rule was to prevent the club hopping during the seasonal year and to create a good working environment between clubs by talking with each other when players wanted to switch DURING the seasonal year. The intent was never to stop clubs from getting inquiries about players looking to switch after the seasonal year was over. Therefore, the spirit of the rules should be that there is no need to notify the players current club if they are looking to attend tryouts or obtain information if looking to switch after the year is over.

Who am I committing to in terms of player commitment to the team?

You are first committing to the member club. Whatever contract that you will be signing with them will be a binding commitment between you and that club.
This is for a term of one season August 1st to July 31st.
There are certain rules and situations where IYSA can hold clubs accountable to our policies, but you must remember as a parent/player you are directly contracting with that club that you sign with, and we as a third party cannot void any contract between you and your club.

What if the team doesn’t form after I committed to the club?

You cannot be forced to play up an age group if you do not want to.
Please review your contract with your club for further clarification on this.

What does “committing” mean?

Committing means that you are a member of that club until the end of your contract, for the seasonal year. You will have to be released by your club if you no longer want to be a member of that club for that seasonal year. Please refer to your contract with the club to understand what further obligations and commitments are required from that club.

When can a player commit to the next season?

No commitments are considered final until the First Monday after the tryout window.

How long is the commitment for?

August 1st to July 31st – Unless otherwise stated in your contract between you and your club.

What happens if the club does not produce what they promised?

If you and your club disagree, you must work it out with your club.
IYSA has no power or ability to govern a contract between a club and an individual.

Can a player go to multiple tryouts?

Yes, there is no restriction or limit on that week.

Why are all the tryouts on the same day?

Our member clubs set their own schedule for tryouts. There is an initial one-week window for tryouts that allows players to go to as many tryouts as they want. So those players can find the best environment for their development.

Clubs may schedule additional tryouts throughout the year.

Do I need to sign a contract that night?

IYSA does not require that you immediately sign any contract.
We do suggest that you read any contract between you and your club before initiating any agreement

When will a commitment contract be binding?

The contract between you and your club will be binding starting the Monday after the Initial tryout period.

When can I hold jamborees, open houses, and clinics?

The U19 age group concludes on Directors Cup weekend May 17-19. This will mark the end of the State Cup event; therefore Jamborees, Open Houses and Free Clinics may begin on May 20th.

Releases from Clubs

If you are a player looking to switch to a new soccer club, you WILL need to obtain a release from your current club. A release is a document that allows you to transfer from one club to another. Here are the steps to get a release from a club:
Review your current club’s policies: Before you request a release, it is important to review your current club’s policies on player transfers. Some clubs may have specific requirements or fees for players who want to leave.
Contact your current club: Reach out to your current club’s coach or administrator and express your desire to leave the club. Ask about the process for obtaining a release and any associated fees.
Complete the necessary paperwork: Your current club will likely require you to complete some paperwork to request a release. This may include a release request form or a transfer request form.
Wait for approval: Once you have submitted your release request, you will need to wait for your current club to approve it. This process can take several days or weeks, so be patient.
Obtain the release: If your release request is approved, your current club will provide you with a release document. Keep a copy of this document for your records. Register with your new club: Once you have obtained a release, you can register with your new club. Make sure to provide the release document to your new club as proof that you are eligible to transfer.
It is important to follow the proper procedures for obtaining a release from your current club. Failure to do so could result in disciplinary action or other consequences.
