Hancock Named to National Pool

BOISE (Jan. 22, 2013) – The U.S. Under-17 Women’s National Team will open its new cycle with a training camp running from Jan. 26-Feb. 2 at The Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif., and it will include Idaho player Grace Hancock.

Hancock played for the Idaho '97 Girls ODP team at the Region IV ODP Championships in Las Vegas earlier this month when she caught the attention of one of the National Team scouts on the sideline. She continued to impress throughout the event, and received an invite to the camp. Hancock has been on the Regional Team for the past two years, but this will be her first call-up to a National Team camp. She is the only Region IV player invited to the camp that lives outside of California. Hancock also plays for FC Nova U-16 and Boise High.

"One of my goals has always been to play in a World Cup. When I went to Costa Rica with the Regional Team two years ago, I knew the U-17 World Cup was going to be there. I set a goal to be a part of that event. This is the first step in reaching that goal," Hancock said.

Players born on or after Jan. 1, 1997, are age-eligible for the next FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup to be held in Costa Rica, and U.S. Soccer Director of Development Jill Ellis has called in 26 players, with 22 born in 1997 and four in 1998.

The young U.S. team will be tested right away as the squad will take on the Germany U-17 Women’s National Team on Tuesday, Jan. 29 (kickoff at 4 p.m. PT) and Friday, Feb. 1 (kickoff at 2 p.m. PT). Both of these youth international matches are open to the public with free admission.
