IYSA members,

After extensive thought, consultation, and careful deliberation, we have made the very difficult decision to cancel our ODP tryouts and trainings for the remainder of the 2020 season.

As you know, the coronavirus pandemic has had a profound impact and will continue to pose significant challenges into the foreseeable future. We are saddened by its devastating effect on so many – including those within the soccer community. This decision, was driven primarily by the following:

1.As a State, trending back towards additional limitations and mandates due to rising COVID-19 numbers.

2.The cancellation of the ODP Championships in Phoenix, Arizona. As a program, this is one of the primary opportunities to get Idaho ODP players identified for further looks at the regional and national levels.

Excerpt from USYS re: ODP Championships
“We’d like to thank the USYS Family for your ongoing support as we manage our programming given the current health and travel environment. The safety and security of our soccer community is, and always will be, our highest priority!
As you know, several States in the West Region have not had the opportunity to play meaningful games due to COVID restrictions. As a result, we have decided to cancel the ODP West Region Championships

3.This left two major events for us: The Small States Friendlies and Sub Regional in March.  The Small States Friendlies were cancelled this week as out of state teams were unable to attend due to travel restrictions.   Currently, Ada county also prohibits events in which out of state teams can travel into Idaho.

4.Given the factors listed above, the last thing we want to do is get everyone registered into the state pool/teams and then have nothing to offer you regionally or nationally.

We truly appreciate everyone’s support!  Looking forward to regrouping Spring 2021 with opportunities for player identification.

Thank you,

Your ODP staff
