After a highly successful trip to Phoenix for the West Region ODP Championships in January, followed by the recent ODP Sub-Regional Camp in Boise, each Idaho Youth Soccer ODP head coach collaborated to create the first ever Idaho ODP Top 11.
The players were nominated by their respective ODP coaches and then State Technical Director Skyler Bell finalized the lists. The players selected were dominant on the field and showed tremendous character and leadership off of it.
"Each coach nominated the top performers from their respective teams, which are comprised of some of the best players in the State," Bell said. "My job was then to finalize a Top 11 for both the girls and the boys based on how the players performed in their respective age groups. Each list is intended to showcase the strength of talent we have from across our State participating in ODP."
Coach of the 04’ boys ODP team, John Wind, spoke very highly of his player nominations. John looked at players who were willing to step up and help lead the team, no matter who they were facing. John also mentioned how all his nominations were also highly praised by both Idaho and regional staff.
Kelly Feldman, coach of the 05’ girls ODP team spoke highly about the overall experience and exposure these young athletes are getting in the realm of soccer. Kelly called this experience, “an inspiration to be better and see the bigger picture.” Kelly explained how these kids don’t always get challenged to their full potential until they experience something such as the ODP program, which allows them to compete on another level gaining instrumental value.
The Olympic Development Program (ODP) was formed in 1977 to identify a pool of players in each age group from which a National Team will be selected for international competition; to provide high-level training to benefit and enhance the development of players at all levels.
